Lagoon Morning!
What a sweet morning on Mosquito Lagoon! The winds were light, the sky clear and the fish were biting!
Today, we targeted some early morning Trout. The flat that I selected was teaming with life as the baitfish scurried everywhere to aviod being a meal for the hurgry Trout.

Marc, from Texas, displays a solid trout that was fooled by our presentation.

We rounded the day out with a few Redfish!

What a great morning....Marc, we'll do it again on your next visit!

Mosquito Lagoon Redfish
With light winds from the Northwest predicted, we hit the waters of Mosquito Lagoon in search of Redfish. Upon leaving the comfort of Halover canal, we found the wind to be anything but "light". The early morning wind and cloud cover proved very difficult to spot our targets before the boat got up on them, but as the morning sun broke free and the wind subsided, it became a sightfishing dream.
We had many opportunities at single cruising Redfish, as well as, several schools from 20 to 80 fish.
Todd displays a beautiful 11lb. Redfish that he sight casted to! Great work Todd.

So many fish...so little time...April is almost gone! Book your trip today!

Mosquito Lagoon Redfish and Trout!!
The weather has really been co-operating as of late. Today we had light winds from the East and for the most part sunny skies. The Redfish are on the flats and so are the Gator Trout.
We must have seen 30 different Trout between 4 and 8 lbs. These fish are very aware of their surrounds and are often seen but not caught. Not today!

A nice 4.5 lb Trout for the dinner table!

This 12lb. Redfish, did not want anything to do with the boat and put up quite an impressive fight.

The fish are out there! Let's go fishing!

Mosquito Lagoon Redfish!
Today, I had the pleasure of fishing with 2 anglers from the Great North. Curt, from Minnesota and Rick, from Alaska. We were blessed with light winds and clear, sunny skys! All we needed were the Redfish. We were not disappointed as we came upon school after school, from 20 to 80 fish.

While these fish were quite spooky, the boyz, managed to fool a few into coming into the boat for a quick photo.

Thanks for a Great day on the water guys!

So, It's been a little windy....
If you are lucky enough to get out on the water, and you find yourself with a windy day and the fishing stinks, check out some new areas of water that will give you some shelter.

Last Saturday morning, after the show, I took the dinghy out fishing. The wind was howling out of the east, so I decided to hide behind the Clinkers. Now, I must admit, that I have a couple spots in the Clinkers, but wanted to check out a different spot that I have rarely seen anyone. I like to fish the Clinkers during the summer because there is usually a lot of bait and the waters are clean and single fish will stay back there. To my surprise, I found a nice school of slot redfish, and MANY, MANY monster trout. The bait of choice was a DOA Shrimp Rootbeer color over all the other baits I own. But I wouldn't have went back there if it wasn't windy.

So, if your having a bad day on the water at your normal spots, (I have three spots I go to each time I fish) try checking out a new spot, and learning some new water, and maybe you'll get lucky. Or in the worst case, you find nothing and can mark off that spot as a junk.

Keep track of fishing with a fishing log, so when you do have a bad day you can check out your log and hopefully get a good bite on.

Tight lines and screaming reels,
Enjoy the outdoors and take a kid fishing!

Indian River Fishing
Fishing the Indian River for big redfish is in full effect. The past week we have found many huge redfish (40+ inches) in big schools ranging from 50-500 in deeper areas of the Indian River. These fish are VERY spooky, so using your trolling motor in is going to put up an alarm for them, and soft plastic baits are not working well. A nice hand picked shrimp from your favorite bait store, as well as a nice fresh piece of cut ladyfish will allow the redfish to find your hook. Leading these fish is also a must. If you have a bad cast and theres a chance that your bait is going to hit the middle of the school, snag it back and recast. Leading the fish at a minimum of 15-20 feet in front of the lead fish should help you catch more fish. If your casting large shrimp, a little helpful hint is to add a small bullet weight. This will help with a couple cases. First it will allow you to cast the shrimp without it going in circles, making you cast further and with little air resistance. Second, it makes your shrimp fall to the bottom faster. When you lead that fish, your bait must be on the bottom of the water and not suspending.
Tight lines and screaming reels,
Steve

Schools Everywhere!
Tuesday was another fine day on the lagoon. Nathaniel Wygand had a fun day playing with some redfish. The first fish of the day was a nice 31 inch redfish. The shcools were working toward the boat all morning as we boated several nice redfish. Batteries died on the camera. It was a fun day for Nate and myself. Last year Nate landed a 38 pound redfish. Back on the water Sunday for an afternoon trip with another repeat client.

Book now for the later part of February and March as the days are filling fast. I will be at the Miami International Boat Show next weekend with my boat sponsor Hell's Bay. Call 407-405-0819!

Great Start To February!
Sunday got things off to a nice start. Jeff and Wiliam managed to catch reds on the flats for the first time. We had a great time and redfish were all over the place. There were schools and tailing fish. It was a fun day and the weather was great!

Monday was another solid day! The morning bite was tough. The later bite was the key for Dick, Warrick and Jerry. Some nice Slobberknockers decided to eat and Warrick from Alaska found out what a Slobberknocker is all about! It was a fun day with some of my favorite clients!

Book Now for the remainder of February. I have 11 days open. I am also booking for March, April and May! You can call now and book for anytime!

Winter Fishing Is Great!
Finally a little cold has approached Central Florida. The fishing has been okay the past few weeks, but it should really trun on with the latest front. There have been some real nice redfish landed the past few weeks and some nice trout. Check out the photo gallery and fishing reports on my website www.aaahawgwildcharters.com.
Now is the time of year to downsize your baits, line and leaders. I will use a 15 pound flourocarbon leader this time of year. Slow down your presentation and make accurate casts. The water is clear and the fish can be spooky. Stealth is key factor in sneaking up on your target. Smaller baits also work better in winter time. Those area few tips that will help you on the flats.
I have gift certificates on slae for Christmas. If you purchase a charter between now and December 23 you will get $25 off regular price. A charter makes a great gift.
CAll 407-405-0819 and book for December and January!

Sight Fishing Time!
It is that time of year when sight fishing is awesome! The cooler temperatures will cause the water to become gin clear. Redfish will begin to eat better as the sun is higher and warms the flats. You will find them in sand holes which reflect the sun light and allows them to warm their bodies. You can also find large schools of fish and plenty of singles. Don't forget about the gator trout. They may be the most difficult inshore fish to sight cast. I have seen many monster trout lying in sand holes this week. Remember they are very wary and alert to their surroundings. Give us a call at 407-273-1190 on Saturday fro.m 6-8 am. If you would like to book a charter call Captain Dave at 407-405-0819 or visit www.aaahawgwildcharters.com.
