March Report For Ponce Inlet Offshore
March winds have slightly started and we are coming up on the time change so we will get an extra hour of light. Spring is almost here Woo Hoo.... Spring time fishing is in full swing right now. Bottom fishing remains strong with quite a few grouper and snapper coming to the docks. Also the big amberjacks are here. Scamp grouper are out in the deeper water in 200ft with some giant porgies big sharks and yes some cobia. The cobia are going to run shortly we have manta rays and turtles that are holding fish right now but not as thick here off Ponce as Port Canaveral. We have realy nice water temperature warm for this time of year actually. Dolphin have been showing up but not in big numbers but they are showing signs of a good run with a few quality fish coming to the dock. Wahoo have also been on the ledge. Its wide open be ready to get on a bite either troll or bottom fishing be careful out there and Catch some fish. Ponce Offshore mid january
Well I have said it before and I will say it again. Wooo Hooo! The fishing has been on fire, wide open, and generaly very good. Lots of big fish are biting. The bottom fishing has been very good. Big grouper, snapper, amberjacks, and ABF's (assorted bottom fish) like triggerfish, snappers of all types, seabass and teh list goes on. The troll has been producing king fish, wahoo a few dolphin and some sailfish. This mild winter (dare I say it) has kept the fish close to shore and ready to eat. the biggest clue or hint I can give is live bait, strong tackle and hooks and maybe do some arm back and shoulder exercises. Because these fish are going to put a hurting on you. Its a great time to get out there. Peace and go get a fish or two, Captain Ron Neff Central Florida Offshore FishingReports by Captain Ron of AbsoluteTrip.com
December 12-26-07-1-1-08 GOOD WEEK!
WHOO HOO! Had a good week catching lots of fish. I guess there was a good chew on with the impending weather that is over us now. We got lots of keeper sized red snapper, big grouper and cobia, king fish and lots of assorted bottom fish. Like triggerfish, seabass, redeyes or vermillion snapper. The bait was plentiful on the wrecks as were the baracudas. There were a few sharks caught also but believe it or not they were mostly the "good" shark catcgory. Blacktips, silky sharks, bullsharks, and a few of the nondesirible catagory yet still lots of fun to reel in the atlantic sharpnose shark aka puppy shark or dawg. All in all it was a beautiful week good weather, warm water and lots of good fish that were close to shore. Now as I sit here writing this it is all a changing. For the better I do not know or realy think so. This cold weather and hard north wind is going to usher in cold water, strange current and bring lots of sharks, seabass, and a slow bite over all. When the weather clears we are probably going to have to search a bit for some cooperative fish. I think they will be in a little shock from the quick cool down. Best bet will be head to the ledge and find a warmer water temp. There is a good chance they will be bunched up on spots out in the deeper warmer water. All in all this is still a very good time of year to go fishing offshore when the weather breaks. There are alot of fish to go after and even a stray dolphin and sailfish. Peace and go get em', Captain Ron Neff Central Florida Offshore FishingReports by Captain Ron of AbsoluteTrip.com
December Offshore Ponce inlet Report
So far so good for this month. Well actually pretty amazing fishing has been had out front. I have not seen or heard of the fishing that is going on right now since I was a kid. Unbelievable catches of grouper and snapper have been hitting the dock, did I mention they are mostly "BIG" fish 20-50lbs and lots of them. As well as the troll is producing wahoo, dolphin, and sailfish and the king fishing is just plain stupid, if you have a idea of where they are and what they like to eat you can catch as many as you want. I like a #2 planer and a 3 1/2 Drone spoon in a solid blue color with silver shiny tape on it, and of course green is a old standby. Don't pass up that inside stuff thinking you need to run out to the deep water there are a lot of fish inside of 25 miles. I am not sure what else to say except catch some of the plentiful baits that are offshore and go fishing the fish are here and they are in eating mode and hang on. I have been spanked and taken to school by monster grouper more times in the last 2 weeks than I have in the last 5 years. Its pretty incredible actually. GO FISHING!!! Peace and I hope your 150lb leader will hold and your 2$ owner hook does not break in half, Remember turn the handle and lift his head up, Capt.
